UKRAINE
OUR ACTIVITES

In both western Ukraine and neighboring Hungary, Terra Renaissance is dedicated to providing life-sustaining relief and long-term rehabilitation for those affected by the war. In Hungary, we continue to offer essential emergency supplies and warm meals to refugees who have fled across the border. Within the Transcarpathia region of Ukraine, we operate multiple "Kitchen Points" in collaboration with local churches, delivering free warm meals twice a week and essential winter supplies, such as firewood, to socially vulnerable populations, particularly the isolated elderly. To further support the community, we are constructing a "Comprehensive Social Center" in Berehove city, which features a social kitchen, a chapel, and multipurpose rooms to provide holistic care and future rehabilitation. Additionally, we foster independence and restore dignity through our "CSCs (Cash for Social Contributions)" program, empowering displaced individuals by providing cash assistance in exchange for their participation in vital community support activities.

When the war broke out, as an elementary school teacher and a mother of three, I supported Terra Renaissance’s refugee relief efforts in Ukraine from the early stages as an unpaid volunteer. Rather than acting as an official staff member, I spent two years, starting in 2022, supporting the operation behind the scenes as the wife of Father Péter. He heads Terra Renaissance’s local partner, the Greek Catholic Caritas (a Christian charitable organization), and I assisted my husband, Mr. Kósa, and the other local staff.

A turning point came at the end of 2023. The local elementary school where I worked was downsized due to a decrease in attending children, meaning I could no longer work as a teacher. The prolonged war had cut the number of students at our local school in half, as fathers and grandfathers were conscripted, and families left the hometowns where they were born and raised in search of safer places. While I was looking for a new workplace, Terra Renaissance hired me, and I now work as the coordinator for the six kitchens providing warm meals.

It has already been two years since I took on this role, and I am constantly dealing with shrinking budgets and soaring prices caused by inflation. Furthermore, since there are many elderly and sick individuals throughout the region, securing able-bodied staff is difficult, making it one of my crucial tasks. Drawing on my experience as a homemaker, I give my best every day, believing that my true test is how well I can procure the necessary ingredients at a low cost and provide nutritious meals to those who need them.

Thanks to the heartwarming support from everyone in Japan and beyond, we have somehow managed to make it this far. I sincerely pray that you will continue to support us.
